Scholarships

Since its founding in 1820, Lancaster Masonic Lodge has been actively invested in the education of the youth of Lancaster. The first institution of higher learning – the Lancaster Academy – was founded by Freemasons in 1820, and members of the Lodge were instrumental in establishing Lancaster’s public school system in the early 1800s as well. The first public library in Lancaster was organized in 1834 by a group of men comprised mostly of Freemasons.

Lancaster Masonic Lodge offers two to three scholarships every year to high school seniors who are active in service to the community. These young men and women are the future leaders of our community. Scholarship amounts range between five hundred to one thousand dollars, depending on the number of applications received.

Qualifications
Each applicant must have a minimum unweighted GPA of 3.0 or higher, or weighted GPA of 3.5 (Honors) or 4.0 (AP/IB), must attend a high school in the city of Lancaster, and must be actively involved in community service in some way. Each student must submit a one to two page essay on what family, friends, faith, and service to community means to them, and also include at least one professional letter of reference from the school or a community business/organization, and be endorsed by the guidance counselor of their school.

Completed applications must be sent to the Lodge. to the attention of the Scholarship Committee, postmarked no later than May 1 (2022). Winners will be announced on our website and Facebook page, and also receive written notification of their award.

Scholarship recipients must then present themselves to the Lodge at its stated meeting on the first Tuesday in June, where they will be formally presented with their scholarship award.

The scholarship application form may be downloaded below.

Scholarship donations

Lancaster Masonic Lodge welcomes donations to its Scholarship fund. Donations in any amount may be mailed to the Lodge to the attention of the Scholarship Committee. The greater the resources available in this Fund, the greater the scholarship amounts we are able to award to the rising stars of our community.
